Medieval Food
In the Medieval Ages, there was a wide variety of food options. But if you were in the lower classes, then you didn’t have it so good. Below are all the different classes and the foods they usually ate.
Nobles-
They ate very flavorful foods because they could afford the expensive spices. Nobles had meat sometimes and ate off of flat pieces of bread, or trenchers. These functioned as plates.
Knights-
They ate what the nobles ate usually because they stayed in their castle. Also, they would usually have more meat than anyone else to keep their endurance up. This helped them remain strong in battle.
Clergy-
The clergy feasted and fasted sometimes, depending on the time of year. During lent, they only ate things with no meat, but they could eat most things that have to do with a water lifestyle, which included fish, geese, and beavers. Also, they could still have deserts and drinks.
Tradesmen-
They ate food pretty much like the peasants, but if their trade was in food, they also had whatever they made.
Peasants-
They weren’t allowed to eat meat, and a good thing, because they couldn’t afford it. Peasants usually ate very basic meals like porridge.
