Medieval Entertainment
The entertainment of the Medieval Times was viewed differently by a wide variety of people. Some looked at it as very comical and enjoyable. However, some think it is pointless and not creative. But there were lots of ways that the richer class entertained themselves. Most of these activities were only for the upper class, since the poor were working on the farms.
Troubadours traveled throughout the different kingdoms and sang songs about knights winning the love of mistresses. They also recited poetry for the kings. Jesters are today’s equivalent of clowns. They used silly costumes and performing small little acts, like a juggling or dancing act. All they were trying to do is make the rich people laugh. Artwork began to begin again after the Dark Ages and many people became interested in painting and sculpting again. Also, many different musical instruments became popular. Men wouls hunt animals for fun. The more skins or stuffed animal heads you had would make you a more “important” man. Families would often gather in the solars and read, talk, joke, and be happy.
